BLUSH TIPS & TRICKS

I actually already did a post about Blush; but I recently checked it out, and I didn't really like it. So I'm re-doing it...and hopefully some of these new tricks will help out a little more :) 


-PICK THE PERFECT BLUSH. For blush, there's one simple rule. The lighter/fairer you are, go for bubble-gum, cotton candy colors. The darker/tanner you are, go for peachy, coral colors. 


So this might go better with fair/light skin tones:

-APPLY IT ANOTHER WAY. I admit it, I'm guilty of this mistake. We all know that, when applying blush, you smile really big and apply the blush onto the apples of the cheeks. That's all great and stuff...but what happens when you stop smiling?


Your cheeks drop, and the blush won't appear to be on the apples of the cheeks...and it won't look natural. 


So the best way to apply it, is the same way you apply your bronzer (aka contour). Just take your blush and sweep it on your cheekbones :)

If you apply bronzer powder (countour) AND apply blush...be sure to apply the blush= upper ; and bronzer = lower


For example, you can see it on Kim Kardashian here: 


And this model as well:



Their bronzer is at the hallows of their cheekbones, but their blush is right on the cheekbones. 


Another Tip: 
When your doing this, whether with bronzer or blush (or both!) be sure to not go ahead of the pupil of the eye. 




For example, look right at the pupil of the model's eyes above. Then, in your head, draw an imaginary line straight down from her pupil. Make sure that your blush/bronzer never goes forward or ahead of that line. 


Sometimes when people go ahead of that line, the whole makeup, looks too heavy and too obvious. 




-MASTER THE NATURAL FLUSH


Blush looks best when it looks natural on someone. It's soft, natural, light...not obvious, cakey, or heavy looking. 


Here's an easy way to achieve natural looking blush: 


Mischa Barton's makeup artist, Nick Barose, uses a light liquid foundation ON TOP of a cream blush...to create a natural flush to the cheeks. Almost as if "blood is rushing to your cheeks"






EXTRA TIP:


To get a really pretty, illuminated look, dab a little bit of shimmery powder onto the highest point of your cheekbones (closest to the eye)

Quick Tip: MAKE FOUNDATION LOOK NATURAL

Foundation shouldn't look like foundation. "Foundation should look like skin"...at least, that's what the pros say. And they're obviously, completely right. No one wants a cake face...everyone wants a beautiful, flawless finish to their foundation..to make it appear that they have touchable, baby soft, gorgeous skin. 

So here's a quick tip!: 

-After you have finished applying your foundation; take a tissue and PRESS it against the skin. Don't smear it or do any motion with it. Just press it, all across the face. 

This will take out the oils from the foundation...BUT leaving the pigment...so it'll give a more matte, natural look. 

P.S. Tissue as in the Kleenex kind.."blow your nose" tissue NOT the kitchen ones.

PERFECT, NATURAL FOUNDATION LOOK

Okay, I'll admit it. I am really jealous of that model above. Her skin looks so balanced and perfect...it looks so natural. 


BUT just because you have discoloration, acne, acne scars, dark circles..etc. , doesn't mean that everybody has to know about them. So here are some tips to getting a NATURAL, FLAWLESS, foundation look. 


1) THE RIGHT SHADE


To get the 'natural' look, you have to make sure your face matches your neck, chest...etc. So you gotta pick the right shade of foundation. 


-Test the foundation at your jawline. This is the place where your neck and face 'meet', so it'll probably give you the most accurate tone of your foundation. Whichever foundation matches and almost dissapears next to your skin, is probably your match. 


-Try investing in a high end foundation brand. If you pick the right one for you, it should do the job pretty well, and give you a beautiful finish as well. 


-If you are at a drugstore, obviously its not so easy to test the foundations. Try going to a high end foundation store and try finding the right shade. (But don't rely on the store lighting! Try stepping out in natural light to make sure it's your skin tone) Then ask the clerk if you can have a sample of it to try home. And then you could always come back and try to match the color at the store.

2) BRUSH VS. HANDS 
So you've probably seen makeup artists just blend their foundation quickly with their palms, and some blending it with a brush. 


You can pick literally any way you like. 


Palm- if your just looking for a quick cover of foundation, this is the way to go. Also the heat from your hands, warm up the foundation, causing it to blend a little better. You can also reach places where the brush can't blend as well.




Brush- to give a more flawless finish. It makes the look a bit more matte and is probably a better way to get the 'natural' look, because the look looks more matte and softer. 




You can also combine them. You can first just apply real quick with your hands, then buff it out and blend it a bit better with the brush! :) 




3) POWDER


Usually a clean face is pretty much matte (except for oily skin people though). But dusting some quick powder makes the look a bit more natural and soft.


 And it locks in the foundation...so it'll last a bit longer too.


 




4) COLOR


A clean, natural face doesn't look like a cartoon face. It has tones of color here and there, which make the face come more 'alive' and glowing. 


-BRONZER POWDER

Try taking some bronzer powder and applying a bit at your cheekbones, your temples, and the jawline. The places where the sun naturally hits your face. 





Don't go overboard with it though! (make sure that your face still kind of matches your neck, chest..etc.)

-BLUSH

Blush can also make you look more awake and alive. But, same with the bronzer powder, a little goes a long way. Just apply a little bit of a hint of blush rather than a completely flushed look...you don't want to make it completly obvious that you're wearing blush.
